What
is Service-Learning
Service-learning is a teaching methodology, which
utilizes service experiences in the community as text for learning in the
classroom. Local non-profits and schools serve as co-educators and provide real
world learning situations for students to meet unmet community needs.
Service-learning activities inform, clarify, illustrate and stimulate
additional thought about academic topics covered in the classroom, as well as
encourage students to develop or strengthen a habit of service and social
responsibility to the community.
At California State University, Fullerton students
enrolled in service-learning courses have the option of participating in
service-learning, by engaging up to 40 hours of service per semester, to meet
unmet community needs. Almost every major at Cal State Fullerton offers
service-learning.
