Racer Parnelli Jones to Sign Autographs at April 27 Car Show

Classic Cars to Be Showcased at Cal State Fullerton Event

Who:

Parnelli Jones, retired race car driver best known for winning the 1963 Indianapolis 500 race, will sign autographs and greet attendees Sunday, April 27, at the Dean's Car Show at Cal State Fullerton. Among the vehicles on display at the free, public event will be a rare 1934 MG-NE and a 1972 Ferrari 246 GT LeMans Evoluzione — each is one of only three such models in the world — and Jones' 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 racer.

What:

The show, a Cal State Fullerton 50th anniversary event sponsored by the College of Communications and Ford Motor Co., will feature more than 100 examples of classic American and European autos — including a McLaren, Ford PZEV (partial-zero emissions vehicle) Focus and hybrid Escape, and a 1929 Model A Ford truck once driven on the original Chapman Ranch in Orange County — as well as street and hot rods. The festivities will feature music of the '50s and '60s, a raffle and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the university's Center for Children Who Stutter and student scholarships.

When:

10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27

Where:

Parking lot of Cal State Fullerton's College Park Building, 2600 E. Nutwood Ave., Fullerton, 92831.

Additional:

Trophies will be awarded to the top three cars in 22 categories. Writers from Road & Track Magazine also will award a trophy to the “car they would most like to drive,” said Rick Pullen, dean of the College of Communications. In addition, because the event is being held as part of the yearlong Cal State Fullerton anniversary celebration, the event will showcase more than 20 vehicles from 1957, the year the university — then Orange County State College — was established by an act of the California Legislature.

Entry Fee:

Fee to register a vehicle for the show is $35. Registrations can be completed online at www.deanscarshow.com. For more information, call Allan St. Jacques at 714-835-6280.
