ECS Assistant Dean Honored for Work Helping Students
Although not an ASCE member, Jones was selected for her participation in the 2005 Pacific-Southwest Regional Conference hosted by the campus student chapter of the ASCE. Jones intervened upon hearing the students were having difficulty raising the $60,000 needed for the event and organizing the 17 schools, 700 student participants and 12 major events. “She provided essential leadership to the chapter in a very critical time,” an ASCE representative stated. “Although it was not in her ‘job description,’ she stepped in to help the chapter. She convened evening meetings to enable all of the ‘players’ to meet at once, counseled the officers on strategy and solicited support from other campus resources and connected the chapter directly to university officials that could authorize actions in support of the chapter.” Jones has been with Cal State Fullerton since 2002 and was honored as one of its 2005 Outstanding Staff Employees. In addition, she was a recipient of the 2004 American Society for Engineering Education Best Session Award for her presentation on the challenges of cooperative education.
