Cal State Fullerton celebrates women’s contributions and achievements throughout March with a series of guest lectures, a conference on gender, music and film.
Among the events scheduled are:
March 3 — “Evil, Evil Woman: What It Was Like to Be the Only Female Witness in the Dover Intelligent Design Trial” presented by Barbara Forester, professor of philosophy at Southeastern Louisiana University. Forrest, who served as an expert witness at the 2005 trial, is co-author of “Creationism’s Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design.” The 7 p.m. talk in Portola Pavilion C of the Titan Student Union.
March 4 — “Do Men and Women Think Differently? Theories of Sex Differences in Cognitive Abilities” talk by Meredith Basil, director of athletics academic services. The noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 5 — “Generation M: Misogyny in Media and Culture” a film by Thomas Keith, lecturer in philosophy, Cal State Long Beach. The film will be presented at 11:30 a.m. in the Titan Student Union Theater.
March 5 — “Bullies in the Workplace” by S. Irene Matz, assistant professor of human communication studies. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.

March 5 — “Skillful Women in the Fabric of French Society” presented by Daryl Hafter, professor emerita of history and philosophy, Eastern Michigan University and author of the 2007 book “Women at Work in Preindustrial France.” The 4 p.m. talk will be held in the Titan Student Union Theater.
March 11 — “Sex, Rap & Rock & Roll: A Public Debate” featuring Donna J. Nicol, lecturer in women’s studies, and Rebecca E. Dolhinow, assistant professor of women’s studies, Cal State Fullerton. The noon discussion will be held in the Quad.
March 11 — “Women & Eating Disorders” by Dani Smith, director of peer & health education at Chapman University. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 11 — “The Business of Being Born” documentary film on midwifery produced by Rikki Lake and presented by B.J. Snell, associate professor of nursing at Cal State Fullerton. Screening at 6:15 p.m. in the Gabrielino Room of the Titan Student Union.
March 12 — “Who Am I? Exploring Acculturation and Ethnic Identity Issues for Women” talk by Sapna B. Chopra, lecturer in counseling. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 18 — “Porn - What Is It Good For? A Public Debate” featuring Amy B. Coplan, assistant professor of philosophy, and Scott Galloway, lecturer in philosophy, Cal State Fullerton. The noon discussion will be held in the Quad.
March 18 — “Women and Leadership: What About Today? What About Tomorrow?” talk by Valerie O’Krent, lecturer in child and adolescent studies and women’s studies. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 19 — “Women’s Ways of Leading: Challenging Patriarchy, Promoting Social Change” presented by Donna J. Nicol, lecturer in women’s studies. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 20 — “Women & Men Leaders: Take Care, Take Charge” talk by Barbara McDowell, director of the Women’s Center. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 20 — “Battle of the Bands” featuring Slow Mo Erotic, Hadassah Hill and Eva Bronosaurus at 7 p.m. in the Titan Student Union Pub.
March 24 — “Scholarship on Gender” Conference sponsored by the Women’s Studies Department. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Titan Student Union.
March 24 — Keynote presentation: “Trash TV: It’s Not Just a Waste of Time” by Shira Tarrant, assistant professor of women’s studies at Cal State Long Beach and author of “When Sex Became Gender” at 11:30 a.m. in the Alvarado Room of the Titan Student Union. March 25 — “Feminism and Fashion: Allies or Enemies?” presentation by Marjorie Jolles, assistant professor of women’s studies, and Jodi Davis, lecturer in women’s studies, Cal State Fullerton. Noon presentation is in the Quad.
March 25 — “Women & Leadership: Change, Challenge and Controversy” panel discussion featuring Jane V. Hall, professor of economics; Diana W. Guerin, professor of child and adolescent studies and chair of the Academic Senate; Julie Stokes, associate professor of Afro-ethnic studies; Sylvia Alva, associate vice president for undergraduate programs; and Lea Jarnagin, assistant to the vice president for student affairs. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
March 26 — “Balancing Life Roles for Women” talk by Christina Carroll-Pavia, counselor and training coordinator with Counseling and Psychological Services. Noon talk will be held in Room 205 of University Hall.
