Susamma Barua, professor of computer science, was appointed acting associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science effective Aug. 15.

John Carroll was reappointed chair of Geography.

Marc R. Dickey was reappointed chair of Music.

Ellen J. Dumond was reappointed chair of Management

Mark Filowitz was appointed associate dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics effective Aug. 15.

Karen S. Ivers was reappointed chair of Elementary and Bilingual Education.

Lawrence P. Johnson was reappointed chair of Art.

Anthony T. Rimmer was reappointed director of the Faculty Development Center effective July 1.

Henry Soto was appointed assistant vice president of budget management, planning and strategy, effective Aug. 25. Soto previously served as assistant vice president for administration and finance at Cal State Los Angeles.

Christopher P. Street was appointed to a two-year term as chair of Secondary Education.

Leah Brew was appointed to a three-year term as chair of counseling effective Aug. 21.

Nancy P. Fernandez has been appointed director of Freshman Programs effective July 1. Since 2001, Fernandez has served as chair of the Interdisciplinary General Education Department at Cal Poly Pomona.

William W. Haddad was appointed to a two-year term as chair of History effective Aug. 21.

Paula Herberg was appointed to a one-year term as acting associate vice president of international programs effective July 1.

James R. Hofmann was reappointed to a three-year term as chair of Liberal Studies effective Aug. 21.

Dorota M. Huizinga has been appointed associate vice president for graduate studies and research effective July 14. Huizinga joined the campus in 1991 as an assistant professor of computer science and rising to full professor in 2003. She has served for last five years as associate dean in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

John D. Mearns was appointed to a three-year term as chair of Psychology effective Aug. 21.

Joseph A. Weber was appointed to a three-year term as chair of Sociology effective Aug. 21.

Steven Yim was appointed university controller effective May 1. Previously, Yim had served as acting director of student financial services and interim university controller.

Michael LaCour-Little, Finance, was appointed to a three-year term on the CSUF Housing Authority Board of Directors effective immediately.

Jay Bond, Facilities Management, was elected 2008-09 vice president of the Association of University Architects during the organization's 53rd annual conference in Morgantown, W.Va.

January 2008

Gayle K. Brunelle was appointed to serve as acting program coordinator for the European Studies Program for the spring semester effective Jan. 17.

Melinda R. Pierson was appointed to a three-year term as chair of Special Education effective Dec. 1, 2007.

May 2007

Andy Newman was appointed associate head coach for the Titan men’s basketball team May 2. Newman has served as assistant to head coach Bob Burton for four years.

April 2007

Gerald Patton has been appointed director of assessment and educational effectiveness effective May 1. He will serve as coordinator of campuswide and discipline-based assessment activities, including the ongoing university accreditation process for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Previously he served as a consultant to the New York State Office of Higher Education.

Bahram Abraham Hatefi was appointed director of internal audit effective May 1. He previously served as director of internal audit and management services at the University of Cincinnati.
 
Sean H. Gil was appointed associate director of the Career Center effective March 19.

Charles W. “Chuck” Buck, emeritus associate vice president for student affairs, was appointed interim director of freshman programs effective Jan. 20.

Meredith Basil was appointed director of athletics academic services April 9. Basil, who previously served as academic support program coordinator, head diving coach and academic support counselor for student athletes at American University, received her master’s degree in psychology from the Washington, D.C., institution of higher education and is completing her doctorate.

February 2007

Dennis Gaschen, Communications, has been elected to serve a two-year term on the 17-member Public Relations Society of America Board of Directors. Gaschen represents the Western District on the national board.

Touraj Daryaee was appointed acting chair of History for the spring semester effective Jan. 18.

Former Titan tennis standout Ruya Inalpulat was appointed assistant coach/sports information assistant for women’s tennis effective Jan. 26. The January graduate (B.A. communications-journalism) was a four-year letter winner and played primarily singles for the Titans. She capped her collegiate career by earning a 2006 Arthur Ashe Scholarship Award for outstanding achievement.

October 2006

Bridget Driscoll was appointed director of the Academic Advisement Center effective Aug. 21. Previously she served as director of Freshman Programs.

Adam Reeves was appointed assistant coach on the men’s soccer program. The former Titan player has served the last two years as a volunteer while working on a master’s degree.

Steven Yim was appointed director of internal controls effective Oct. 2. Previously Yim served as university auditor at Cal State Los Angeles and as senior auditor for the CSU Chancellor’s Office.

September 2006

John W. Bedell, professor of sociology, was appointed chair of anthropology for a two-year term effective Aug. 17.

Janice Burnham was appointed director of student financial services effective Aug. 2. Burnham joins the campus after 17 years as director of student financial services at Cal State Chico effective Aug. 17.

Pinaki R. Chakrabarti was reappointed chair of the civil and environmental engineering for a three-year term effective Aug. 17.

Song C. Choi was appointed chair of computer science for a three-year term effective Aug. 17.

Bin Cong appointed program coordinator of software engineering for a two-year term effective Aug. 17.

Victoria B. Costa was reappointed chair of secondary education for a two-year term effective Aug. 17.

Bridget Driscoll was appointed director of the Academic Advisement Center effective Aug. 21. A member of the campus community since 1999, she previously served as director of freshman programs and a lecturer in health science.

John R. Erickson was appointed acting chair of finance for a one-year term effected Aug. 17.

Janet L. Eyring was reappointed chair of modern languages and literatures for a one-year term effective Aug. 17.

Dagoberto Fuentes was appointed chair of Chicana and Chicano studies for a two-academic-year term effective Aug. 17.

Leon J. “Lee” Gilbert, emeritus professor of foreign languages and literatures, was appointed acting director of freshman programs for the fall semester. A member of the campus community for 36 years, Gilbert previously served in a number of campus positions ranging from department and Academic Senate chair to faculty liaison for intercollegiate athletics and acting associate vice president for academic programs.

Paula L. Herberg was appointed chair of nursing for a three-year term effective Aug. 17.

Murtadha A. Khakoo was appointed chair of physics for a three-year term effective Aug. 17.

Chris Manriquez was appointed director of the Common Management System project effective May 2.

Chris Renne was appointed to a three-year term as director of the Center for Careers in Teaching effective Aug. 17. Renne, professor of elementary and bilingual education, has taught on campus since 2000.

Shari N. Starrett was appointed chair of philosophy for a three-year term effective Aug. 17.

Susan L. Tschabrun was appointed chair of the Pollak Library’s technical services for a three-year term effective Aug. 17.
