JOINT TASK FORCE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE


Purpose and Mission Statement
In Spring 2000, through the support of the President’s Office,
the Women’s Center partnered with Women’s Studies and
Western State University, College of Law formed the CSUF/WSU Joint
Task Force on Domestic Violence.
The
mission of this active organization is to provide and improve existing
educational, training and legal resources for university members
and surrounding community members and to increase understanding
of the problem of domestic violence in Orange County.
Additionally, the task force is dedicated to providing students
in the field of law an opportunity to engage in dialogue with students
in the helping professions.
The mission relies on collaboration of faculty, student and community
members to assist survivors of domestic violence and advocate on
their behalf.
To date, the task force has offered the following:

bureau of qualified speakers to present to community
and campus* |

five joint advocacy trainings with Western State
University for a total of 650 participants |
 |
a conference drawing 1400 participants entitled Boys, Bullies
and Batterers |
 |
56 community/campus education programs, |
 |
a phone drive to collect previously used cell phones for domestic
violence survivors, |
 |
3 television interviews |
 |
one all-day seminar at Western State University for community
members on the resources, system response for domestic violence
survivors entitled “Battered Mother’s and Children’s
Advocates: Collaborating Across the Ideological Divide.” |

Internship opportunities for students seeking to develop skills
to work in the area of domestic violence advocacy, prevention
and education. |
 |
Finally, through the dedication of the members
of the task force, and with the expertise of Extended Education,
we announced the new Domestic Violence Advocate Certificate
Program through Extended Education. |
